Things to do in London over the Christmas holidays

With plenty of spare time over the Christmas holidays, you may be stuck for things to do to occupy yourselves (besides lots of studying, of course!). Fear not, we are here to save you from boredom and have come up with a list of festive activities to get you into the Christmas spirit!

1)      Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland

Featuring a huge fun fair, games, Christmas market stalls and seasonal food and drink, Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is one of London’s most popular festive attractions. Grab a mulled wine in one of the bars and stroll around the different stalls. There is also an Ice Rink and a Magical Ice Kingdom for those brave enough to face the cold.

2)      Harrods
Visit the famous department store and see the weird and wonderful decorations and gifts that they have on offer. Discover the magical world of make believe in Santa’s grotto and make sure you check out the fascinating shop window displays.

3)      BUMP Rollerdisco at the Southbank Centre
Try an alternative winter activity with this festive Rollerdisco. Open every day of the week and featuring DJs at the weekend, this is fun for all ages.

4)      A Very Victorian Christmas at Kensington Palace
Be transported back to the Victorian ages in the palace where Queen Victoria grew up. Visitors will experience the sights, smells and sounds of a traditional British Christmas, brought to life through music, food and drink, talks and dancing.

5)      Dick Whittington at The New Wimbledon Theatre
Watch this side-splittingly funny festive pantomime at our local theatre. The story follows Dick and his feline friend Tommy as they search for fame and fortune, meeting hilarious characters along the way.

6)      Kingston Christmas Market
With over 100 traditional wooden chalets, Kingston Market offers the best of festive drinks, hand-made gifts and German-style food. Why not do a bit of Christmas shopping in the Bentall Centre and the surrounding shops whilst you’re there!

7)      Ice Skating at Somerset House

8)      Big Top Christmas Bazaar
This is an indoor Christmas market with plenty of stalls offering food, drink, gifts and much more. There are also performances from musicians and storytellers, so this is sure to be an exciting alternative to your traditional Christmas market. But hurry, it ends this weekend!

This unique bar is completely made from ice, so will be sure to chill you out! On arrival you will be given a warm coat to prepare you for the -5° temperatures, before being able to explore this ice cave, featuring a real ice bar and plenty of ice sculptures. And why not go for a skate on the ice rink whilst you are there!?

10)   Hogwarts in the Snow
This Christmas take a trip around the Warner Bros Studios where you’ll find glittering Christmas trees lining the Great Hall, Christmas dinner laid out on the banquet tables and the model of Hogwarts covered in a blanket of beautiful white snow. You will get up close and personal to costumes, sets, props and much more during this festive tour of the studios.
