WSE charity work

The official 2017 charity for Wimbledon School of English is The Thunder Foundation.

The reason for choosing Thunder is because it is a very small, family-run, British charity, founded only in 2012, working every day to give young children the start in life that they deserve. The charity provides education, housing, food, healthcare, medication, sanitation and support to children living in Kawangware slum, Nairobi. With over 800,000 people living in Kawangware and 60% being children, it is one of the largest and most populated slums in Nairobi, Kenya.

These are some of the many projects that the Foundation has been involved in to support these children and their families:

  • Formed a football academy of approximately 120 children.  The children are given daily football practice, an opportunity for time off the streets and free evening meals.
  • A sponsorship programme. So far, 23 of the children (in the photo above) are individually sponsored by people living in the UK. This contributes to all aspect of the child's, and their family's welfare.
  • Regular food parcels are organised and shipped directly from UK supporters.
  • Collaboarations with local businesses to provide free resouces to the children, for example, wheelchairs for physically impaired students.

We are very proud to be supporting The Thunder Foundation and our aim for 2017, along with our students and partners, is to help them in all their missions and future plans.
