Specialist Skills Workshops


Our multi-level Workshops help students to refine their abilities and vocabulary in one of many areas of relevance in the modern world. Students work together on micro projects, and every week they present what they have produced to their friends in the rest of the school.

Students are able to choose a different Workshop each week or study on the same one for the duration of the course.

British Youth Culture

For students who want to know their punks from their hipsters.

  • Learn about recent youth trends such as Future Foodies
  • Investigate UK music and fashion subcultures
  • Develop language to describe art, design, fashion and music
  • Research a choice of modern British icons or trends

  

 


Coding - NEW FOR 2020

Our Coding Workshop is designed for students who are interested in developing their ability to code websites, databases, and games.

  • Use coding platforms such as Python, an entry-level coding language
  • Students with a knowledge of Python will soon be able to move on to other coding languages such as C++ and C - the principle coding language used in games and design
  • Have the opportunity to design basic websites and games

  


Debating, Presentations and Public Speaking

For students who want to increase their confidence in public speaking.

  • Gain awareness of voice and body language
  • Learn how to construct and present arguments
  • Receive guidance on how to plan presentations
  • Develop techniques for confidence in public speaking

    


Film Making and Social Media

For students who see themselves as the next Steven Spielberg.

  • Study techniques for camera shots
  • Learn about storyboarding and scriptwriting
  • Explore responsible ways of using social media
  • Produce short films to spark discussion

    


Football Academy - NEW FOR 2020

 

For all budding male & female football stars and taught by professionals from Championship League Reading FC!

  • Study football theory including Team Work, Analysing a Match, Leadership, Nutrition (1.5 hours per week) 
  • Improve your practical football skills (4.5 hours per week)
  • Students must enrol for a minimum of 2 weeks
  • There is a small additional fee for this workshop

  


Junior Journalist

Perfect for budding journalists and students with an inquisitive nature.

  • Learn how to find and report on information
  • Work on interview and note-taking skills
  • Learn the language used in newspaper and magazine articles
  • Produce a newsletter or podcast for the school

     


University Preparation

This Workshop is designed for the many students who would like to study at a British University.

  • Learn about the UK university application system
  • Study the uses of academic English
  • Explore the difference between seminars, lectures, and workshops
  • Learn how to take notes for university lectures
